Letter to Peter Lilley and Michael Fallon
Sir
politicians are constantly telling us how wonderful it is to be a member of the EU yet no one has yet suggested we apply to the EU DISASTER FUND for help..
This is because they are selfishly  focussing all their energies on trying to get themselves elected in this year`s MEP elections.
So may I suggest that we must now urgently apply to The European Union Solidarity Fund.
This  EUSF Fund  was set up to respond to major natural disasters  within Europe.
The Fund was created as a reaction to the severe floods in Central Europe in the summer of 2002.
Since then, it has been used for 56 disasters covering a range of different catastrophic events including floods, forest fires, earthquakes, storms and drought.
Please can any elected politician reading this  now act immediately.
People need more sandbags and practical help.
We pay billions into the EU.
Now is our turn to get something back.
And finally the public should be allowed a debate on membership of Europe as all these little known perks would then come to light.
It was the height of arrogance for Labour Peer Lord Mandelson to say that the electorate cannot be trusted with a referendum on our  EU status.

to Michael
Thank you
  for your detailed response..
If aggrieved voters hear that the EU Disaster Fund has given us money then surely this is detrimental to the  UKIP  vote ??? Especially if an announcement is made by the Conservative Party....
The insurance industry are estimating one £1bn  for the clean up for residential homes ..however if one factors in the losses to the fishing industry..
and farmers losses that will continue for two years due to the slaughter of animals
and loss of agricultural grazing land.
And not to mention the railway lines that need repair ..surely very costly...
and all of the working days lost as commuters have been unable to travel to work
and power cuts making others unable to work from home..repairs of power lines
the cost of fallen tree removals from streets
and the cost of army trucks.. emergency vehicles//
loss to small businesses who may be uninsured ..
cost of  making new  drainage waterways as the planned £123m  pipeline for Oxford...
Not to mention the huge projected losses to the construction industry as  land designated for new homes is now a flood plain..this was clearly shown on the news recently!!
Surely a creative accountant could make the sum add up to the requisite £3bn..???
I feel it would be a good move politically as the public feel that the Government gives too much money abroad and understandably they want something back!!
