Sir I am pleased that the Greens continue to highlight dangers against the signing of the Transatlantic Trade Investment Partnership  known as  the EU/US Treaty. This trade agreement may lead to a watering down of our food safety standards. In the US, supermarket food may contain up to 70% genetically modified ingredients. In contrast the EU allows no GM foods at present. The US allows growth hormones in beef that are restricted in Europe. In Europe a company has to prove a substance is safe before it can be used.  In the US the opposite is true:  any substance can be used until it is proven unsafe.  The EU currently bans 1,200 substances from use in cosmetics while  the US prohibits just 12 additives.
